Summary of "My Ruta Maya"

Information about traveling along the Ruta Maya in Central America is
provided by travel agencies and travel guides as f/e the Lonely Planet. That
is not what you will find in this booklet. My Ruta Maya is a reflection on
the temples, piramids and the ruins I have seen during my stay there.
Ruins are an intriguing phenomenon. They are stories about the past and its
architectural remnants. Man made constructions they develop into isolated
and stand alone buildings and monuments all different and discernible. They
constitute a theater of silence in which Nature is the slow, invisible
conqueror. Ruins show the vanity of the human effort to eternalize himself.
They provide an ambiance for close reading and reflection on a civilization.
I follow the trails of the
dead Maya cities and tell the story of my observations and use a form of
writing that looks like a poem. It is the sound of silence in a loud and
crazy world of today. |
